Mr. Roy Lee Thoms Jr. was born on July 31st, 1953 to Roy Thoms Sr. and Mattie Thoms in Washington, DC. Roy received his formal education through the Washington, DC Public School System, where he excelled in his studies. He graduated from Cardozo High School in 1971. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1:00pm at St. Marks Episcopal Church 106 Reid Street Wilson, NC Interment will be private.Roy was employed with the US Department of Interior, Washington DC for over twenty years, worked a few years at Good Will, and ended his career journey as a chef for Country Cookin' restaurant in Wilson, NC.
Roy departed this life on March 3rd, 2011 at Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC. He was a cheerful spirit, spreading joy and laughter to those around him. He loved his grandchildren and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Thoms Sr.; sister, Francesca Pearson; and sister, Ansonja Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Mattie Thoms; his sons: Kenny Thoms (wife, Tracy Thoms), Darnell Thoms (wife, Brittany Thoms), Larnell Thoms (wife, Valerie Thoms), and Jarvis Thoms; his sister, Anita Bonner; his grandchildren: Markese Thoms, Joseph Thoms, Jalen Thoms, Darnell Thoms Jr. (DJ), Nia Thoms, Haylee Thoms, Brooklyn Thoms; nephew, Jamal Bonner; niece, Eboni Bonner, and a host of cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. We will all miss him dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that he rests with the Lord, suffering the trials of this world no more.Public viewing will be held on Saturday, from 12 -1 pm at the church only, with the family present.Family and friends will assemble at them church at 11:45 am on Saturday.
