Obituary

Born and reared in Danville, VA on May 23, 1959, Phillip Swain Adams was the son of Herbert S. Adams and Clarice Tiny Grant Adams.  He transitioned from this earthly life on October 11, 2021, from Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

It was in this Pittsylvania community that Phillip received his formal education and religious instruction, developed a strong work ethic, and developed his strong sense of family and friendship.  He later ventured to other places in Virginia; and on May 12, 1978, he married the former Susan Barksdale in Dansville, VA. To this union, four children were born.

Shortly after their marriage, they moved to North Carolina and resided in various locales in North Carolina for over the past thirty-nine years. Throughout his life, Phillip was gainfully employed at W. H. Basnight in Ahoskie, NC, at Georgia Pacific Lumber Mill in Ahoskie, NC, and he worked as a carpenter.  In his later years, he was an entrepreneur and used his skills in lawncare. He is reported to have been outstanding in keeping lawns beautiful and well-manicured.

His family will remember Phillip as a loving father and as person who spent every day of his life helping somebody. He was also a hard worker and a person who could fix "just about anything" once he set his mind to it. In addition, he had a phenomenal "green thumb", and he loved plants and making yards beautiful. When he wasn't working, Phillip enjoyed:  listening to all kinds of music and he would talk to you for hours about it; he loved being outside, especially riding his bicycle; and he enjoyed being with his family. His love for his children and their love for him were the joys of his life.

Cherishing these and other memories, he leaves his wife, Susan Barksdale Adams of Wilson, NC; two sons, Jesse Ray Adams and Phillip Greggory Adams (Maxine Tucker) both of Wilson, NC; one brother, Sonny Adams of Hampton, VA; six sisters, JoAnn Cash, Rosie Davis, Lucy Scarce, Sylvia Phelps and Sandra Fay Chumley all of Danville, VA and Susie Schneidt of Eufaula, OK; and special friends, Selena Fayson and Janice Wade both of Wilson, NC. He was a kind, loving, and gentle man who will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raleigh Reynolds of Danville VA; and his beloved daughters, Misty Adams and Skye Angelica Smith.

A private Memorial Service was held on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the residence of his son.
